Former Captain of the Springbok Neil Powell is now the new Springbok sevens team Coach, who took after Paul Treu.
The South Africa team will be facing England, France and spain in pool B of the ist world series in Australia next weekend. So the new coach has a challenge of bring the team together and ready themselves for the ist round of the world series.
The new captain has his fellow teammate Vuyo Zangqa as an assistant coach to the Springbok team.
"Following his retirement as an active player in 2012, we took Neil into our structures with a view to developing him as a coach of the future," said Jurie Roux, the SARU Chief Executive.
Jurie Roux went ahead to describe Powell as a vastly experienced player who is familiar with the World Series. He praised the new coach and said that as he makes his debut next week in australia they hope to boost their sevens growth programme to a higher level.
In 2008/2007 world series, Powell and Zangqa are former Springbok team players who clinched victory during that season. Powell has played for South Africa 32 tournaments on the World Rugby seven Series and won the commonwealth Games bronze medal in the year 2010. On the other hand, Zangqa has played for the team 19 tournaments in Rugby Series.
On the other hand, the Women's Sevens coach has also been appointed by the council. The new coach who was the former national player is Renfred Dazel replacing the then coach Denver Wannies. Dannie has played 32 tournaments in the World Series. She was also among the players who won in 2008/2009 Series
